UNA-China’s President WU Hailong Headed a Delegation to WFUNA’s 42nd Plenary Assembly
From October 18th to 21st, the 42nd Plenary Assembly of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) was held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. About 100 delegates from more than 40 United Nations Associations across the world attended the meeting. Ambassador WU Hailong, President of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Association of China headed the delegation of UNA-China to the Assembly. The UN Secretary-General António Guterres sent a congratulatory letter to the conference. Delegates had a warm discussion on such topics as the future work of WFUNA, multilateralism, UN reform, sustainable development, peacekeeping operations and global citizenship. Mr. Leonel Fernánde, former President of Dominican Republic was elected as the new President of WFUNA. The Plenary Assembly adopted Punta Cana Declaration and 15 resolutions submitted by member UNAs, including UNA-China’s draft resolution, entitled Safeguard Multilateralism and Improve Global Governance, which is co-sponsored by 10 other UNAs. Madam ZHANG Dan, Vice-President and Director-General of UNA-China, was elected with the second largest electorate votes as member of WFUNA’s Executive Committee.

On the margins of the conference, Ambassador WU held talks respectively with WFUNA’s new President Leonel Fernánde, WFUNA’s Secretary-General Bonian Golmohammadi, and delegates from UNA-USA, UNA-Russia, UNA-Cuba, UNA-Pakistan, UNA-Canada, UNA-Hungary, UNA-Sri Lanka, UNA-Malaysia and etc.

On October 22nd, Ambassador WU paid a visit to the Senate of Dominican Republic in the capital city Santo Domingo, and exchange views on bilateral relations and cooperation in a variety of fields with 14 senators from the Dominican Republic-China Friendly Group. Mr. ZHANG Run, the Chinese Ambassador to Dominican Republic and Madam ZHANG Dan, Vice-President and Director-General of UNA-China, also joined the meeting.
